The Community Unit was organized in the Department of Chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Nusaiba Muhammad Mudawi, unit coordinator in the department, has a workshop entitled "Chemistry, the Science of Wonder and Imagination", on Thursday, August 21, 1443. One of the most important objectives of the workshop was: To familiarize the trainee with a historical overview of the science of chemistry and the development of this science until our time.
To learn about the different sections of chemistry and their importance in different fields.
Interpreting some phenomena in daily life and explaining those phenomena in chemical terms.
Present simple chemical experiments.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Nusseibeh Muhammad Mudawi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, and it gave an enlightenment on the development of chemistry, ancient and modern, as well as linking this science with the phenomena of daily life and the interpretation of those phenomena in chemical terms. The workshop also included presenting simple chemical experiments to the students to clarify some of the different chemical reactions. The gases and sediments are colored. By presenting information related to the objectives of the workshop in an interesting and enjoyable way.
The workshop was presented at Al-Quwaiz Intermediate School - Al-Nuweima, in the presence of a number of third-level students. The interaction during the presentation between the students and the introduction to the workshop was by asking questions about the extent of the students' knowledge of chemistry and changing the misconception about the difficulty of this science.
The workshop included presentation of chemical laboratory experiments to clarify some simple chemical reactions. Which resulted in a remarkable interaction of the students and their astonishment at the extent of the momentary changes in the formation of colored compounds and the rise of gases, as some students asked questions about what these compounds are and how these products are formed in various colors in an interesting way.
At the end of the workshop, some students expressed a clear desire to learn more about the science of chemistry and choose it in university studies, after reviewing some names of Saudi women scientists who contributed to chemistry, as well as Arab women scientists and scientists who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry as the highest award that a scientist in his field receives globally..
