As part of its initiated community service programs, the College of Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Administration of Education in Wadi Addawassir, organized a three-day (23–25/5/1438) training course entitled "How to prepare a lesson in English” that was held in the College theater for the school teachers of English in the governorates of Wadi Addawassir and Suleyl. The workshop was animated by Dr. Ali Lamouchi (from English Department in the College) and it was attended by 23 trainees. The trainer pointed out that this course was designed to enable trainees to have a comprehensible complete framework that would help them to prepare their lessons in a well-organized and accurate manner and to evaluate and auto-criticize their teaching for self-improvement.The approach adopted in the workshop was based on an alternation between debates and brainstorming on the one hand and clarification and feedback on the other. In the last meeting, the trainer focused mainly on the application of what has been touched upon theoretically in the previous two sessions. So, it was an opportunity for teachers to interact and to use the information in practice.
Mr. Mordhi Moubarek Al-Shraida, the Educational English Language Teachers’ supervisor in the Administration of Education in Wadi Addawassir, affirmed that this kind of courses that treat many important and essential aspects of the English language teaching and its methods are interesting and of great benefit. He, also, added that the eagerness of the Administration of Education to cooperate with expert teaching staff members from the College of Arts and Sciences is a very important step. In fact, it is necessary to build bridges of cooperation between the different educational institutions so that all who are concerned in our dear country are up-to-date about all that is new and useful in the field of science and knowledge. May Allah preserve our security and our faith and save our governors from any evil.
The participants in this workshop also expressed their thanks and gratitude for this great initiative and their longing to having other workshops whether in English or in other disciplines taught in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is worth mentioning that the workshop was attended by Mr. Mordhi Moubarek Al-Shraida, the Educational English Language Teachers’ supervisor in the Administration of Education in Wadi Addawassir, Mr. Suleiman Zu’bi, the vice-Dean for Development and Quality in the college, and Dr. Anil Prasad, the head of the English Department.
